Rock Township Ambulance District (RTAD) is committed to our community through compassionate clinical excellence.  We are an official American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site, American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) Training Center, and National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Training Center.  We offer a variety of classes to assist the public, police, fire, EMS, and other healthcare partners with their educational needs to provide the best care possible.  We provide discussion-based comprehensive classroom instruction with practical application in dynamic scenario-based situations.

RTAD provides books to students, but students must retrieve the book prior to the start date of the course from RTAD Headquarters located at: 6707 St. Luke’s Church Road, Barnhart, MO 63012 during business hours (M-F 0800-1600).  Students who do not have a book on the day of the course will be denied admission.  If students wish to purchase their own book for the class, this does not change the cost of the class.

Course fees are specific to each class.  Payment must be received on or before the date of the class in the form of cash, credit card, check or money order made payable to: Rock Township Ambulance District.  All credit card transactions are assessed an Administrative Fee.  Failure to pay will result in class completion cards being withheld until payment is received and processed.

If a student needs to cancel a registration, they must do so at minimum (7) seven days in advance by contacting the RTAD Training Division to receive a refund, minus a $10.00 Administrative Fee.  Cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the program start date are non-refundable, unless a true emergency exists as approved by the Training Division.  Students may transfer their registration to another date depending on class space and availability.

Rock Township Ambulance District provides opportunities for individuals to become instructors in the disciplines they possess certifications.  Each instructor certification process and cost is specific to each course.  Please reach out to the RTAD Training Division for more information.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Original (2-day): $200.00     Renewal (1-day): $150.00
ACLS HeartCode: $20.00.
ACLS is a course that allows providers to enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. It is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care.  It also covers airway management and related pharmacology.  In this course, skills are taught in group sessions and group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.  This course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies including: EMS, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units.  Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Card valid for two years.   **For an ACLS Original 2-day class or HeartCode, please contact the Training Division to schedule.

 

Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS): Original (2-day): $200.00     Renewal (1-day): $150.00
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) is the gold standard of education for emergency medical assessment and treatment. Endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians, AMLS emphasizes the use of the AMLS Assessment Pathway, a systematic tool for assessing and managing common medical conditions with urgent accuracy.  Students learn to recognize and manage common medical crises through realistic case-based scenarios that challenge students to apply their knowledge to highly critical patients.  The course emphasizes the use of scene size-up, history, interactive group discussion on potential treatment strategies, and physical exam to systematically rule out and consider possibilities and probabilities in treating patients’ medical crises.  AMLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse anesthetists and physicians.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.

 

All Hazards Disaster Response (AHDR): $150.00
The All Hazards Disaster Response (AHDR) course teaches students how to respond to the many types of disaster scenarios they may encounter, including natural disasters and infrastructure failings, fires and radiological events, pandemics, active shooter incidents, and other mass casualty events.  AHDR educates participants on how to analyze potential threats in their area, assess available resources, and create a response plan that will save lives.  AHDR is appropriate for all levels of EMS practitioners.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.

 

Basic First Aid: $20.00
***CPR/AED is strongly recommended to attend this course, however, not required.
The ASHI Basic First Aid course helps students develop basic first aid knowledge, skills, and the confidence to respond.  This first aid training program is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting, and conforms to the 2020 AHA and ARC Guidelines Update for First Aid.  This course is intended for individuals who are not healthcare providers or professional rescuers but desire, or are required, to be certified in basic emergency medical care.  Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Health & Safety Institute (ASHI) course completion card valid for 2 years.  **For a Basic First Aid class, please contact the Training Division to schedule.

 

Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR for Healthcare Providers: $50.00
BLS HeartCode: $20.00
BLS trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.  In the instructor-led classroom course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations.  Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing.  BLS CPR is designed for healthcare providers caring for patients both in prehospital and in-facility environments.  Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Card valid for two years.  **For a BLS Original or Renewal class, or HeartCode, please contact the Training Division to schedule. **

 

CPR/AED: $20.00
**This course is FREE for individual community members.
ASHI CPR/AED is an extremely flexible CPR and AED certification program that teaches how to recognize cardiac arrest, activate emergency medical services, and respond appropriately until additional assistance arrives. This course also covers how to respond to urgent choking situations.  This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory or other requirements such as lifeguards, daycares, camp counselors, school teachers, coaches etc.  These courses are also designed to meet OSHA requirements.  Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Health & Safety Institute (ASHI) course completion card valid for 2 years.

 

EMS Safety: $150.00
NAEMT’s EMS Safety course teaches students how to protect themselves and their patients while on the job. It promotes a culture of safety and helps reduce the number of on-the-job fatalities and injuries. EMS Safety is the only national, comprehensive safety course for EMS practitioners. Its interactive format features real-life case studies and compelling discussions on current safety issues and provides participants with a forum to share their own experiences. Critical thinking stations help build participants’ risk assessment and decision-making skills.  EMS Safety is appropriate for all levels of EMS practitioners, other medical professionals providing prehospital patient care, and EMS supervisors and administrators.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.

 

Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC): Original (2-day): $200.00     Renewal (1-day): $150.00
The Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) course focuses on critical pediatric physiology, illnesses, injuries and interventions to help EMS practitioners provide the best treatment for sick and injured children in the field.  The course stresses critical thinking skills to help practitioners make the best decisions for their young patients.  EPC is appropriate for EMTs, Paramedics, other emergency medical responders, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians. EPC is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT.

Topics covered include: The pathophysiology of the most common critical pediatric emergency issues, and critical thinking skills to help practitioners make the best decisions for their patients, application of the Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT), the importance of family-centered care, understanding and communicating with children, airway management, breathing and oxygenation, cardiac emergencies, recognizing child abuse and neglect, hypoperfusion and shock, and newborn resuscitation.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.

 

Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS): $150.00
GEMS provides EMS practitioners at all levels with the skills and knowledge to address the unique medical, social, environmental and communications challenges of older adults. Developed by NAEMT, in partnership with the American Geriatrics Society, GEMS empowers EMS practitioners to help improve medical outcomes and quality of life for geriatric patients.  GEMS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, emergency medical responders, nurses, physician assistants and physicians.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.

 

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Original (2-day): $200.00     Renewal (1-day): $150.00
***PALS HeartCode:$20.00.
PALS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics.  The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.  This course is designed for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children including: EMS, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians and nurses. Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Card valid for two years.  **For a PALS Original 2-day class or HeartCode, please contact the Training Division to schedule. **

 

Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS): $150.00
PEARS teaches providers how to recognize respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider.  The goal of PEARS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.  PEARS is for healthcare providers including: EMTs, medical and surgical nurses, school nurses and any other healthcare provider who infrequently sees critically ill infants and children. Upon successful completion, students will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Card valid for two years.  **For a PEARS class, please contact the Training Division to schedule. 

 

Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS): Original (2-day): $200.00     Renewal (1-day): $150.00
The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care.  PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program.  PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care.  PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital providers.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.  **For a PHTLS Original 2-day class, please contact the Training Division to schedule.

 

Psychological Trauma in the EMS Patient (PTEP): $150.00
NAEMT's Psychological Trauma in EMS Patients (PTEP) course gives EMS practitioners the resources they need to help alleviate patients’ hidden wounds – intense fear, stress and pain – during a medical emergency.  PTEP educates EMS practitioners about the biological underpinnings of psychological trauma, the short and long-term impact on the brain and body, and warning signs that a patient is experiencing extreme psychological distress.  EMS practitioners are also taught strategies and techniques to alleviate patients’ distress and help patients cope with what they’re experiencing to ward off lingering effects.  PTEP is designed for EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.

 

Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC): Original (2-day): $200.00     Renewal (1-day): $150.00
**RTAD also offers the TECC for Law Enforcement Officers (TECC-LEO) course.
NAEMT’s Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches EMS practitioners and other prehospital providers how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment.  The course presents the three phases of tactical care and integrates parallel EMS nomenclature: Hot Zone/Direct Threat Care that is rendered while under attack or in adverse conditions; Warm Zone/Indirect Threat Care that is rendered while the threat has been suppressed but may resurface at any point; Cold Zone/Evacuation Care that is rendered while the casualty is being evacuated from the incident site.  NAEMT's TECC course is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, is consistent with the current guidelines established by the Committee on TECC (Co-TECC), and meets all of the updated National Tactical Emergency Medical Support Competency Domains.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a provider card valid for four years.  Upon successful completion, students will receive a National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) Provider Card valid for four years.  **For a TECC Renewal 1-day class, or LEO Original/Renewal Class, please contact the Training Division to schedule. **

 

Wilderness First Aid: $20.00
***ADULT CPR/AED is REQUIRED to attend this course.  Basic First Aid is strongly recommended, however, not required. ***
Wilderness environments create special situations not usually encountered in an urban or suburban environment.  With an ASHI Wilderness First Aid class, first aid providers in a remote outdoor setting will be better prepared to respond with wilderness first aid training when faced with limited resources, longer times to care for someone, and decisions about when and how fast to evacuate an ill or injured person. This comprehensive 16-hour wilderness first aid course meets or exceeds the Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines, 2017 Edition.  Information-filled slide presentation covering wilderness and remote first aid from a basic understanding of emergency response in an outdoor setting to specific techniques and considerations for a wide range of injuries and illnesses.
